Indicted in four cases of sexual violence and placed under the status of assisted witness in four others, Patrick Bruel is the subject of some thirty complaints for alleged sexual assault and rape. While he firmly denies these accusations and remains presumed innocent, his anniversary tour, organized to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the album Alors regarde , is now at the heart of a heated controversy. This Wednesday, August 26, his longtime friend, director Élie Chouraqui, chose to speak out on RTL radio. The filmmaker, who has known Patrick Bruel for many years, first wanted to emphasize the strength of their bond. ” Friendship is like love. Friendship is something that never goes away ,” he explained. However, the director doesn’t hide his unease at the revelations surrounding his friend and says he distinguishes between the artist he knows and the one whose story is now being told in the media. ” For me, there are two men. There’s the man whose astonishing story I read in the media. And then there’s the one I know, ” he confided to RTL. Élie Chouraqui maintains that he has spoken several times with Patrick Bruel, whom he describes as ” deeply affected .”But while he wants to offer his support, he acknowledges that relationships between men and women in the singer’s generation may have been marked by certain behaviors that are now more openly questioned. “I know that people of Patrick’s generation were always a bit heavy-handed, a bit complicated in their relationships with women and all that, ” his friend adds. However, the director has no intention of interfering with the justice system. ” He knows that if he were ever tried and if the facts were ever proven, that’s the law, that’s life, that’s how it is. We all get what we deserve at some point .” He says he also adopts this position out of respect for the women who have decided to file complaints. ” I’m stunned, to be honest, ” he declares, before adding: ” Above all, I’m thinking of the women who have filed complaints, who sometimes continue to file complaints, and their pain, and I share in that pain .” For Élie Chouraqui, who directed Patrick Bruel in Ô Jérusalem in 2006, only one thing matters now: that the whole truth comes out about this affair. ” I am a lover of the truth and so I eagerly await this truth ,” he concludes.

Patrick Bruel: facing growing pressure, his tour is being contested even in political circles
This intervention comes as Patrick Bruel’s tour is increasingly facing opposition. Scheduled from October 2nd to November 21st, it is to include 35 dates to celebrate the 35th anniversary of ” Alors regarde .” However, several elected officials have recently called on Patrick Bruel to cancel it. The mayor of Amiens, Frédéric Fauvet, notably asked him on Tuesday, August 25th, to cancel his two concerts scheduled for October 14th and 15th, believing it preferable to wait until “the legal process can run smoothly .” Similar calls for action have also been made in Chartres, Dijon, and Strasbourg.
On Wednesday, the Minister for Gender Equality, Aurore Bergé, also stated that ” the conditions are not right ” to maintain these concerts, believing that Patrick Bruel “should himself withdraw ” from the tour. This represents increasing pressure, as the singer continues to deny the allegations against him and the legal proceedings are ongoing.
