The fruit that smokers must eat... See more...

A proper diet can improve the condition of the lungs, including those of smokers, according to US scientists.

The fruit that smokers must eat

"Apples have a beneficial effect on the condition of the lungs in people with nicotine addiction," the experts are categorical.

According to researchers, apples contain substances that protect the lining of the lungs from damage and inflammation. If the lungs are already damaged, the substances in this fruit contribute to their accelerated tissue repair. This is confirmed by data from an experiment with 600 smokers. Scientists analyzed the characteristics of their diet, smoking and health status. It turns out that smokers who regularly consume apples provide their lungs with more reliable protection against diseases.

"Smokers who eat a small apple and a few tomatoes daily have better lung health than others. They also breathe more air," the study authors said.

They note that the use of fresh tomatoes and apples is effective in restoring the lungs of smokers - fresh juices do not give such a result.

Eating fruits and vegetables, including apples and tomatoes, is part of a healthy diet, and some observational studies have linked higher intakes to better lung function. However, this does not mean that apples can repair damaged lung tissue, reverse the damage caused by smoking, or protect smokers from lung disease .

No food product can compensate for the harm caused by tobacco smoke. The most effective measure to reduce the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, cardiovascular disease and other complications is to stop smoking.

The results of observational studies show links between dietary habits and health, but do not prove that a specific food in itself causes improvement or "cures" damage that has already occurred.

If you have persistent cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain, blood in your sputum, or other pulmonary symptoms, seek medical advice. Do not rely on nutritional products as a substitute for medical evaluation or treatment.
