Part 2
I stared at my phone screen, trying to convince myself it was just my imagination. The grainy black-and-white image, captured by the night vision camera, showed Mia lying motionless on her side, her tiny body rising and falling with each breath. The room was silent. The only movement was the slight swaying of the curtains at the window. For a moment, the mattress stopped moving, and everything returned to normal.
Then he moved again.
Not much—just a slow pressure from below, as if someone were pushing her away with an arm or knee. The mattress tilted slightly beneath Mia's back.
My heart was pounding.
"Mia…" I whispered to myself, though she couldn't hear me through the camera.
The movement repeated itself, stronger this time. The mattress rose slightly in the middle, then sank.
My brain desperately searched for a logical explanation.
Maybe the frame broke.
Maybe a box spring broke.
Maybe the new mattress hadn't been installed properly.
But none of these possibilities explained what happened next.
The blanket lifted slightly at Mia's feet. As if something had been pushed upward beneath it.
“Mia,” I said loudly, already standing up.
I grabbed my robe and ran down the hall toward his bedroom, still looking at the camera on my phone.
The door was closed. There was no movement in the room.
I quietly opened the door. Mia was still asleep. The mattress looked perfectly normal. But something was wrong.
I crouched down next to the bed and lifted the blanket slightly to check the surface of the mattress. Nothing unusual. The material seemed smooth and flat.
Then I remembered the camera angle. It wasn't pointing directly at the top of the mattress.
He pointed to his side. Slowly, my gaze drifted to the bottom of the bed frame.
That's when I saw it. The mattress was no longer flat on the frame. One corner had lifted. It looked as if something was stuck between the mattress and the slats underneath.
“Mia,” I whispered.
She stirred slightly.
“What happened, Mom?”
I tried to remain calm.
“Honey… did anyone come into your room tonight?”
“No.”
“Did you hear anything?”
She shook her head sleepily. I slid my hand under the edge of the mattress.
And touched something that was definitely not part of the bed.
For three weeks, my daughter Mia repeated the same unusual phrase every night before bed.
“Mom… my bed seems too narrow.”
At first, I thought it was just one of those weird expressions kids use when they can't properly describe their discomfort. Mia was eight years old, imaginative, and sometimes a bit dramatic when it came to bedtime.
“What do you mean tight?” I asked one night, pulling the covers over me.
He shrugged.
“I feel like something is squeezing me.”
I pressed my hand against the mattress.
It seemed completely normal.
“You must be growing,” I said. “The beds might seem smaller as you get taller.”
He didn't seem convinced.
That night he woke up at almost midnight and came quietly to my room.
“My bed is cramped again.”
I went to look at it. The mattress, frame, sheets—everything looked completely normal.
When I told my husband, Eric, about this, he just laughed.
“He just doesn't want to sleep alone.”
However, Mia did not give up.
Every night.
"Feeling the tension."
After a week, I decided to completely replace the mattress because I thought that the springs inside might have been damaged.
The new mattress arrived two days later.
For one night Mia slept peacefully.
Then the complaints started again.
“Mom… it's happening again.”
Then I decided to install a small security camera in his bedroom.
At first, I convinced myself I was just doing it for comfort. Mia always tossed and turned in her sleep, and at night she might even kick the bed frame.
The camera was connected to an app on my phone, so I could check what was happening in the room at any time.
For the first few nights, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Mia slept normally.
⏬Continued on next page⏬The bed did not move.
But on the tenth night I suddenly woke up.
The digital clock showed 2:00 a.m.
My phone started vibrating, signaling a notification.
Motion Detection – Mia's Room.
Still half asleep, I opened the camera feed.
The night vision camera photo shows Mia lying on her side under the covers.
Everything seemed calm.
Then the mattress moved.
A little bit.
It looked as if something was moving underneath.
I felt a knot in my stomach.
Because Mia's bed had no drawers to store things.
There was nothing underneath, just a wooden floor.
But in front of the camera…
Something was clearly moving.
I stared at my phone screen, trying to convince myself it was just my imagination. The grainy, black-and-white image from the night vision device showed Mia lying motionless on her side, her tiny chest rising and falling steadily with each breath. The room was silent. The only movement was the slight swaying of the curtains at the window. For a moment, the mattress stopped moving, and everything returned to normal.
Then he moved again.
Nothing dramatic—just a slow pressure from below, as if someone were pushing her with an arm or knee. The mattress slid slightly beneath Mia's back.
My heart was beating fast.
“Mia…” I whispered to myself, even though he couldn’t hear me through the camera.
The movement repeated itself, this time more forcefully. The mattress rose slightly in the middle, then sank back down.
I racked my brain for a reasonable explanation.
The frame may be damaged.
Perhaps the spring broke.
The new mattress may have been installed incorrectly.
However, none of these theories explained what happened next.
The blanket lifted slightly at Mia's feet.
It looked as if something was pushing him upwards.
“Mia,” I said loudly, already standing up.
I grabbed my robe and ran down the hall toward his bedroom, still looking at the camera on my phone.
The door was closed.
The movement inside stopped.
I slowly opened the door.
Mia was still sleeping.
The mattress looked completely normal.
But something was wrong.
I crouched down next to the bed and lifted the blanket slightly to examine the surface of the mattress. Nothing unusual. The material was smooth and flat.
Then I remembered the camera angle.
It was not aimed directly at the top of the mattress.
He pointed to the side.
Slowly my gaze drifted to the bottom of the bed frame.
Then I saw it.
The mattress was no longer level.
One corner moved up.
⏬Continued on next page⏬It looked like something was trapped between the mattress and the slats underneath.
“Mia,” I whispered.
He moved slightly.
“What happened, mom?”
I tried to keep my voice calm.
“Honey…did anyone come to your room tonight?”
"NO."
"Did you hear anything?"
He shook his head sleepily.
I slid my hand under the edge of the mattress.
And he touched something that was not part of the bed at all.
The moment my fingers touched the object beneath the mattress, I felt a wave of cold. The shape seemed long and stiff, like plastic or metal. I quickly withdrew my hand and stood up.
“Mia,” I said quietly, “sit next to me for a moment.”
He rubbed his eyes and got out of bed.
"What is this?"
"I'm not sure yet."
I moved the mattress slightly away from the wall and carefully lifted one corner.
What I saw there made my heart stop.
A narrow, black plastic tube is placed between the mattress and the wooden frame.
A thin cable hung from the side of the bed, towards the floor.
For a moment I didn't understand what I was seeing.
Then the epiphany came.
It wasn't part of the bed.
It was equipment.
I lifted the mattress.
The tube was connected to a small recording device taped under the bed frame.
I felt a knot in my stomach.
Someone hid it there.
“Mia,” I said quietly, “let’s go to the living room.”
"Why?"
“Just trust me.”
After a few minutes we were sitting on the couch and I called the police.
About thirty minutes later, two police officers arrived. One carefully removed the device from under the bed, while the other began asking questions.
“Do you know anyone who could enter your home without permission?” the officer asked.
I shook my head.
"NO."
But Mia spoke quietly from the couch.
“The cable installer came last week.”
Both officers turned towards the woman.
“What cable installer?”
“He said he would fix the internet.”
My blood ran cold.
Because I remembered that visit.
A technician from a service company came to check the router in Mia's room.
He was alone upstairs for almost twenty minutes.
The officer nodded slowly.
“We will contact the company immediately.”
Later that night, as Mia fell asleep next to me on the couch, I stared at the device the police had photographed.
The mattress was “tight” because the hidden equipment slid underneath it.
And the movement I saw on camera had nothing supernatural about it.
A small mechanical motor inside the device activated the recording function.
Which meant something much worse than a broken bed in my daughter's room.
And if he hadn't complained about the narrow bed...
I might never look at the camera at 2 a.m.
